I graduated from Troy University in May of 2010. Since then I have done a lot of traveling and a lot of trying to figure out exactly what I want to do when I grow up. The realization was, of course, that I want to do everything.
For a while after graduation was taking random classes at a local community college (Pre-Calculus Trig., Sociology, and Ethics) and employed at both a call center doing customer service for a national cell phone provider and a department store selling clothing. On my days off, I was working on freelance design work and making art out of found objects. As busy as I kept myself, I always felt like there was something else I should be doing, that a piece was missing.
In March of 2012, I decided that it was worth the risk to focus only on my freelance design work and my art, the things that made me the happiest. I have never been more satisfied by a decision in my life. After spending a month at home doing nothing but projects, I set out on an adventure. I spent May & June 2012 traveling and making art wherever I happened to be. It was fantastic. I missed working around people though, being a social creature.
In June 2012 I was hired as a Layout Specialist at the Opelika-Auburn News. That's where I work today. The steady income and normal working hours has allowed me the freedom to take on only the freelance projects that I really believe in and the time to work on my passion projects.
As far as hobbies go, I really just like to do things with my hands. I have been slowly renovating the house that I live in and doing whatever art projects I think up. I also love doing designing layouts for, and hand-binding, books. I've been a vendor at a couple of arts & crafts festivals, which is always interesting.
My favorite character is the ampersand, and I love the font "American Typewriter." I really don't care how you feel about either of those things.
I am always looking for a new challenge.
